Another urban flooding alert for Karachi
As a strong low pressure currently located above central India is moving towards Sindh, Karachi may see a rainstorm with some moderate/heavy falls starting on Wednesday (tomorrow) till Aug 25, the Met office said in its advisory.
Severe falls can lead to urban flooding in Karachi, it warned.
According to the advisory, the weather system may start to affect Sindh from tomorrow and rain/storm winds with few heavy/very heavy falls are expected in many districts, including Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Badin, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Nawabshah, Dadu, Jamshoro, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Kashmore districts from Tuesday (today).
Severe falls can create more urban flooding in these districts over the forecast period, he said.
The rainfall could spread to the north-eastern and south districts of Balochistan from 23 to 26 August and cause sudden flooding in the districts of Dadu, Jamshoro, Qambar-Shahdadkot, and downstream.
Persistent heavy rains over Balochistan’s Khuzdar, Lasbela and Hub districts and the Kirthar Range could create further pressure on Hub Dam, Thado Dam, and downstream nullahs.
