Emmanuel Macron defeats far right-wing candidate Marine Le Pen for French presidency, projections show

Emmanuel Macron has defeated far-right candidate Marine Le Pen to win the French presidency, according to projections.

He won 58% of the vote for her 42%, the French media reported. Macron, 44, will become France’s first president reelected in 20 years.

Le Pen, 53, was a third-time presidential candidate and lost to Macron in 2017.

He won 66% of the vote then and her projected result would be an unprecedented gain for the far-right.
