Promises Cheaper Electricity by January 2025 with Thar Coal Project

Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari stated that it is not possible to provide 200 units of free electricity, while also promising reduced electricity costs by January 2025.

Efforts to Produce Electricity with Thar Coal

Speaking on Geo News’ program “Capital Talk,” Owais Leghari mentioned that efforts are underway to generate electricity using Thar coal with the cooperation of China.

He explained that electricity generated from Thar coal would be cheaper by 3 rupees per unit, leading to savings of 300 billion rupees.

Election Promise Reminder

During the program, Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari was reminded that the Vice President of the ruling party and Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, had promised during the election campaign that 200 units of electricity would be provided for free.

Conditions for Free Electricity

In response, Owais Leghari stated that providing free electricity to 15 million consumers using 200 units is only possible if they are given solar systems for day and night use and their electricity connections are disconnected.
