FIA official investigating corruption cases against PM Shahbaz dies

Dr. Muhammad Rizwan, a grade-20 PSP officer and former director of FIA Punjab Zone I who probed the money laundering and sugar scandal case against Shahbaz Sharif and his family till 10 April 2022, has passed away.

Reports indicate that Dr. Rizwan sustained a heart attack earlier today in Lahore. He was immediately transferred to Service Hospital where the doctors declared him deceased.

Dr. Rizwan was on indeterminate leave, which came into force on April 11, 2022. DG FIA, Dr. Sanaullah Abbasi, had removed Dr. Rizwan while former Prime Minister Imran Khan was facing a motion of non-confidence and Shahbaz Sharif seemed favored to become the next Prime Minister.

DG FIA has also appointed Nazia Ambreen, Deputy Director of FIA Cybercrime Circle, as Director of FIA Punjab Zone I. She will retain the extra workload until a regular officer is appointed.
