Heavy rainfall in monsoon season this year forecast

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Pakistan is expected to receive above-normal rainfall during the upcoming monsoon.

Based on the PMD 2022 Monsoon Forecast Report, the pre-monsoon season is expected to begin in the second week of June, while the monsoon season is expected to start in the last week of June.

Punjab and Sindh are expected to experience a lot more precipitation than normal this season while the rest of the country is expected to receive slightly more than normal rainfall over the next monsoon season.

The first phase of the monsoon, running from the beginning of July to mid-August, is expected to be wetter than the last which lasts from mid-August to late September.

It should be noted that the normal precipitation weighted by the area of the country in July, August, and September is 140.8 mm which means the total precipitation expected this year should be greater than this figure.

Heavy rains can cause flash floods in hilly areas and urban floods in lowland areas while providing an adequate supply of water for the irrigation and electricity sector.
