In 1907, the modern concept of Mother’s Day commemoration took shape.
The day’s origins date back to two remarkable women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis, who established the concept of Mother’s Day in the United States.
The first Mother’s Day service was given to the Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, by Anna Jarvis, who was deeply influenced by her mother.
In five years, nearly all states had observed the day, and US President Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday in 1914.
Mother’s Day 2022 is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, which falls on May 8, 2022.
While Mother’s Day is a national holiday widely celebrated in the United States, it is neither a public holiday nor a federal holiday.
Although not all countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the same day, the second Sunday in May is celebrated as a special day in over 50 countries around the world.
