“We wrote a one-page letter to the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting that it locate, report, and arrest Masood Azhar because we believe he is hiding somewhere in Afghanistan”, a senior official familiar with the development directly told this correspondent on the request of anonymity.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when he was approached, refrained from commenting on this development.

The one-page letter also mentioned two different provinces of Afghanistan—Nangarhar, and Kunar—where Azhar hides most often.

It is still unclear if Azhar moved to Afghanistan before or after the Taliban took control of Kabul.

Islamabad specifically banned JeM on terrorism charges on 14 January 2002, during the reign of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in Pakistan.
