The Met Office has predicted rains before the monsoon in the twin cities next week.
It will reduce the temperature and relieve people of the heat wave that has hit the region in recent days.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in Rawalpindi and Islamabad was recorded at 43 degrees.
Roads and bazaars remained vacant as people chose to stay in their houses.
According to the Meteorological Department, hot and dry weather will probably prevail on most of the country’s plains.
A dust storm with low rainfall is forecast in Islamabad and Potohar region on Wednesday evening (today).
Prediction Officer Rashid Bilal reported that, on the whole, a trend for above-normal precipitation was likely in July, August, and September.
“The start of the monsoon is expected in the last week of June while the pre-monsoon rains may occur from the second week of the current month,” he said.
