Shujat in action to bring back ‘rebels’ of party
In the midst of a growing rift between the Chaudhrys of Gujrat, Chaudhry Shujaat's faction commenced courting the other faction that is part of the ruling coalition in Punjab under the blessing of PTI led by Imran Khan.
The Shujaat camp reportedly contacted ten members of the Elahi faction to request a return to the party’s main line as Imran Khan “could not be trusted” while persuading them to contemplate joining the coalition in office.
The leader of the party, in the hope of joining those who sided with the PTI against their will also suggested the possibility of being rewarded with portfolios within the provincial cabinet as part of a power-sharing arrangement with PPP and PML-N.
The development came in the context of the reports that PTI leader Imran Khan authorized the formation of the provincial cabinet. It does not include a single Q league member. Shujaat wrote to ECP. In a related development, he emerged on Tuesday as the head of PML-Q and also wrote to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking clarification as to what is stipulated about a political party’s power hierarchies.
He also raised questions about the details of the PML-Q assets and the list of office holders.
