Arshad Nadeem wins gold for Pakistan at CWG
Another proud moment came on Monday morning when Pakistan's star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, won a gold medal for the country at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In the first round of the javelin throw final, Nadeem set a record with a throw of 86.81 meters.
On the second attempt, Arshad broke his own record with a shot of 88 meters, followed by a throw of 85.09 m in the fourth attempt to stay first.
In the fifth attempt, the Olympian set a new CWG record for a 90.18 m throw and became the first Pakistani to hold the record.
Arshad Nadeem beat Indian Neeraj Chopra at the Tokyo Olympic 87.58m (Gold) and 88.13m World Athletics Championships.
This is the second gold for Pakistan in Commonwealth Games 2022. Earlier, weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt had won the gold medal for Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a record lift of 405kg.
“Thanks to the nation’s prayers, Allah (God) awarded me with a gold medal,” he said.
Nadeem said that in spite of the injuries to his elbow and knee, he was very happy to have won the gold medal. “However, I thanked my physicians for working with me in my training.”
The all-star athlete also thanked the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for supplying facilities.
Nadeem also missed Neeraj Chopra from India, who failed to compete due to an injury.
CWG star performer Nadeem also asked the government to provide athletes with world-class facilities.
“I will also win a medal at the Islamic games scheduled in Turkey,” he swore.
