The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) warned of a murder threat against PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The threat alert issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wing of the CTD said that “terrorists are planning to assassinate Imran Khan, for which they have requested the help of a murderer in Afghanistan”.

According to the publication, the text of the threat warning was shared with different forums, according to which an Afghan assassin has been tasked to target Imran Khan. However, the attacker handed over the responsibility to others.

The CTD has ordered all relevant agencies to take all possible steps for the former prime minister’s safety following the threat alert.

Meanwhile, a senior KP police officer confirmed that the CTD issued the alert on 18 June. However, there were orders to keep the threat secret and prevent its disclosure on social media, he said.

The PTI leadership recently expressed concern about the threat to Imran Khan’s life and claimed that a killer was hired to kill him.

PTI leader Fayazul Hassan Chohan tweeted on Saturday that “some people” have instructed a terrorist to kill former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“I have details that some people ordered a terrorist called ‘Cochi’ in Afghanistan to murder PTI chief Imran Khan,” the former provincial minister said in a tweet.

Later, a party worker claimed that “the killer even acquired a residency in Islamabad or Rawalpindi”
