London: New Study Finds Keto Diet Positively Linked to Physical and Mental Health

A new study has found that ketogenic diets, which are high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates, have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.

Traditionally used in medicine to treat uncontrolled epilepsy in children, the ketogenic diet is often adopted by those looking to lose weight due to the effectiveness of avoiding starch and carbohydrate-rich foods.

Recent research has shown that following a ketogenic diet can lead to improved calmness, satisfaction, and alertness compared to other diets.

Northumbria University in the UK conducted two online surveys, completed by individuals who follow the ketogenic diet and those who do not.

Participants on the ketogenic diet reported better moods and reductions in anxiety, depression, stress, and feelings of loneliness. According to the study, at least seven percent of Americans are aware of the mental health benefits of this lifestyle and consider staying on the ketogenic diet for these reasons.

Fortunately, previous studies have indicated that low-carbohydrate diets can improve symptoms of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health issues, and the latest study provides further evidence supporting these findings.
