PM Office receives summary of COAS, CJCSC appointments: Khawaja Asif
Following the statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif confirmed that the Prime Minister's Office received the summary with respect to the appointment of the first two military positions.
“The Prime Minister’s Office received the summary from the Ministry of Defence,” he tweeted.
The defence minister’s tweet comes almost an hour after ISPR said on Tuesday evening that he had forwarded the summary to his department.
“GHQ has forwarded the summary for selection of CJCSC and COAS, containing names of six senior-most lieutenant general to Ministry of Defence,” tweeted director general of the military’s media wing Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar.
When will COAS be appointed?
The long-awaited appointment of the next chief of the army will take place in 48 hours, Asif assured earlier today.
Asif said that the nomination of candidates for the post of army chief is the prerogative of the Headquarters (GHQ).
Rejecting the rumours, the minister declared that there was no civil-military tension on the issue. “Qamar Javed Bajwa has respect for Nawaz Sharif,” he said.
