Punjab government to provide free education till graduation: CM Parvez Elahi

On Sunday, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Parvez Elahi, announced free education till graduation in public educational institutions.

After raising the national flag at a ceremony held at Lahore Fort to commemorate Independence Day, Mr. Elahi said he made education free till matriculation in his previous term as chief minister.

During the ceremony, he paid homage to the martyrs of the armed forces and police who had given their lives to defend their country.

While commending the Chief of the Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Mr. Elahi noted that the services of the COAS to uproot terrorism in the country deserved to applaud.

People of all religions live in Pakistan, and minorities have been central to the progress of Pakistan. We have an obligation to respect them,” said Mr. Elahi.

He added that the Quaid-i-Azam overcame firm opposition for a separate motherland and emphasized that everyone should work with devotion and assiduousness to make Pakistan flourish.

The chief minister also announced Rs300,000 cash awards for special children who sang national songs, Rs200,000 for Boy Scouts, and Rs100,000 for the police band who participated in the ceremony.

He also visited Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum and laid a flower wreath and offered fateha.

The Consul General for the United States, China, Turkey, and Iran, provincial ministers, officials, and other guests were also in attendance.
