SC removes Hamza, Elahi to take office of CM Punjab
The Supreme Court rejected the ruling of Punjab deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari for the rejection of 10 PML-Q votes declaring the victory of Hamza Shahbaz in the Punjab chief minister run-off election.
The short ruling has 11 pages.
The Supreme Court quashed Hamza Shahbaz’s cabinet notification and his own oath.
The Supreme court ordered the Chief Secretary of Punjab to notify Elahi as Chief Minister of Punjab.
The court ordered the governor of Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman to swear Elahi into office at 11:30 pm.
President Arif Alvi has been instructed to swear in if the governor is unable to do so.
The three-member bench of the court apex stated that the ruling of the deputy speaker has no legal validity, declaring PTI-PML-Q joint nominee Pervaiz Elahi as the winner.
Activists and supporters of the PTI began to celebrate outside the Supreme Court when the decision was handed down and chanted slogans in favour of Imran Khan.
