Sindh IG’s inaction in Dua case irks SHC and orders his replacement

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered the authorities to replace IG Sindh Kamran Afzal with a competent officer. The order was made during the hearing in the case of Dua Zehra, 14, who left her house in April of this year and allegedly “married willingly”.

At Monday’s hearing, Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the kidnapping case filed by Dua’s parents.

The judge expressed his discontent with the failure of the police to produce Dua Zehra before the court. He pointed out that the fact that the police and agencies have not been able to find a girl is indicative of their poor performance.

The advocate general told the court that there were credible reports that Dua Zahra was present in the Hazara division. Justice Agha Faisal asked, “The girl has left your province, what are the law enforcement agencies doing?”

The court pointed out that the IG Sindh Kamran Afzal report submitted is unrealistic and rejected it. It ordered the Establishment Division to assign the responsibility for Sindh IG to an appropriate officer.

The court also asks the division’s opinion about Kamran Afzal whether he is capable or not.

The court issued a written order to the federal government, attorney general, and chief secretary of Sindh.
