The government authorities began sealing Lahore’s main entry and exit points on Tuesday before the long march of PTI.
Police placed containers on the road from Lahore to Sheikhupura and shut down the Ravi River bridge. The government could also shut down the Lahore-Islamabad motorway.
According to recent reports, large contingents of police are stationed at the Thokar Niaz Baig and Babu Sabu interchange.
Earlier, Punjab police launched a crackdown on the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Institute (PTI) before the long march of the PTI during which dozens of PTI workers were detained.
Police searched the PTI leader and former federal minister Hammad Azhar’s residence in Garden Town’s Abu Bakar Block, New Garden Town in Lahore to arrest him in the wee hours of Monday.
Police allegedly broke into his house. However, the police failed to arrest him.
Police detained several PTI workers from outside Hammad Azhar’s residence.
In Lahore, police also searched PTI leader Mian Aslam Iqbal and detained his brother Mian Afzal Iqbal. Senators Ijaz Chaudhry, Waleed Iqbal, MPA Saadia Sohail, and PTI leader Jamshaid Cheema’s residences were also searched by police.
Police also searched the Lal Haveli, the residence of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, to apprehend Sheikh Rashid and his nephew MNA Rashid Shafique but they were not present there.
