Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has proposed reverting to a two-day weekend by re-establishing Saturday as a public holiday for government offices and educational institutions.
On Twitter, the minister wrote that under the present circumstances, days off on Saturday and Sunday and half a day on Friday could help the country save electricity and fuel.
He added that official weekday working hours would also need to be increased by one hour. This will encourage a culture of austerity within the country.
The defense minister’s proposal comes a week after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected the summary to reinstate Saturday as a holiday after a sharp reaction from officials and students.
