Protest in Kharan against ‘enforced disappearance’
Family members of "missing persons" Aslam Mengal and Shah Fahad Baloch held a rally on Wednesday calling for their immediate release in Kharan.
Demonstrators, including women and children, walked on several roads and later organized a demonstration and chanted slogans in support of their demands outside the Kharan Press Club.
Mengal’s sister told reporters that he had been arrested by men in plain clothes on 18 July from his home in Kharan and that he had since disappeared.
She said her family was suffering because of his enforced disappearance and asked the superior authorities to bring him back as soon as possible.
Shah Fahad Baloch’s sister said he had been missing for more than four months and his whereabouts were unknown to the family.
She also called for his safe recovery and said he must be brought to court if he did anything wrong.
Addressing the demonstrators, the leader of the National Party-Mengal, Mir Jumma Kubdani, voiced concern over the rise in enforced disappearances in Kharan and urged the relevant authorities to play their part in stopping these unconstitutional and unlawful practices.
