Spanish prosecutor sought eight-year jail for Shakira
A Spanish prosecutor is seeking an eight-year prison sentence for Colombian superstar Shakira over a 14.5 million euro case of tax evasion, a document from the prosecutor's office showed on Friday.
The singer, who has sold over 80 million albums around the world with hits like “Hips Don’t Lie”, earlier this week turned down an offer of settlement from the D.A.’s office to close the case.
She is charged with failing to pay taxes between 2012 and 2014, during which time Shakira says he did not live in Spain.

According to the prosecutor’s document, Shakira was an ordinary resident of Spain between 2012 and 2014 and in May 2012 purchased a home in Barcelona that has become a family home for herself, her partner, and their son born in Spain in 2013.
It asked for an eight-year prison sentence and a fine of over 23 million euros (23.5 million dollars) in the event of a conviction. So far, no trial date has been set.
