In the ninth match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Uganda clinched its first victory in the event by defeating Papua New Guinea by three wickets.

Uganda achieved the target in 18.2 overs.

The match, played in the city of Providence, Rhode Island, USA, saw Uganda winning the toss and opting to field.

Papua New Guinea‘s team was all out for 77 runs in 19.1 overs, with opening batters Tony Ura and Assad Vala being dismissed without scoring any runs.

Harry Harry scored 15, Lega Siaka and captain Kiplin Doriga contributed 12 runs each, while Charles Amini, Norman Vanua, and Sese Bau managed to score 5 runs each.

Uganda did not have a good start to their innings either, with opening batter Simon Ssesazi and Roger Mukasa both getting out without scoring any runs.

Ali Shah of Uganda played a crucial role in the team’s success by scoring 33 runs in the innings.

It is evident that both teams, included in Group C, had to face defeat in their first match.
